Geez! It’s back to school time and we are about to embark on life as empty nesters (whatever that means).  Last Saturday, our daughter returned to college for her senior year of college at North Carolina A&T State University.  She was so excited to head back that she could have ran all the way to NC.

Tomorrow is the day that we send our last child off to college. Our son Malik will begin his college career at Bowling Green State University.  He is all smiles with a bit of nervous jitters.

As he looked over everything he owns…it’s packed and ready to go…our final run through of his off to college check list looks like this:

  • Comforter & sheets (XL)
  • Towels and toiletries (don’t forget the shower shoes)
  • Microwave, mini-refregirator, iron & ironing board (not sure if he will use it)
  • School supplies: paper, folders, pens, stapler, scissors, wall calendar, desk light, etc
  • Laundry detergent, laundry basket/hamper and direction on washing clothes.
  • First aid kit: bandaids, tylenol, alcohol wipes
  • Computer, alarm clock, waste basket, and that favorite blanket
  • All of their clothes and shoes (because they act as if they will never return home)
  • Money for books, a parking decal, and the miscellaneous items we would never buy.

Well, everything is accounted for… plus so much more.

We are so excited for him and yet a little nervous at the same time.  We have done our job to rear a wonderful, responsible, respectful, considerate, strong and smart young man who has love in his heart and God on his side. Malik will do marvelous things.  We release him on his journey to soar and blaze his own path.  We are so very proud of the young man he has become and we look forward to the wonderful blessings he will receive to share with the world.

Onward and Upward – Ayanna & Malik…and to all youngsters heading back to school.  Make it the best year ever!

Much love and many blessings!
